A Study on Side Effects on Human Health According to Hair Dyeing of Hair Beauty Salon Customers`

Abstract
This study conducted a questionnaire survey against a total of 400 beauty salon customers in Ulsan from August 1 to 31, 2014 with a goal of analyzing their perspective according to hair dyeing and its side effects. Then, the results found the following: When asked if they thought hair dyeing had a negative effect on human health, 74.2% responded Yes. When asked if they have ever experienced any side effects after dyeing, 46.5% responded Yes while 53.5% said No. According to analysis on the types of side effects against 173 respondents who underwent a side effect after dyeing, itching(52.0%) was the most common, followed by hair loss & damage(19.1%), skin irritation(15.6%), pain in the eyes/visual loss(11.0%). In terms of the cause of the side effects, ¡®the toxic substance of hair dye was most responded with 56.7%, followed by consumers¡¯ constitution(ex: allergy, etc.)(28.0%), ¡®beauty salon employee¡¯s lack of knowledge and experience in hair dyeing(5.6%) and insufficient counseling prior to the treatment(5.4%). When asked about the way to prevent these side effects, development of safe and effective hair colorant(62.6%) was most responded, followed by sufficient counseling & preparation of customer care card(13.4%), education on hair colors against beauty salon employees(13.2%) and patch test(10.8%).
